Dear Carolyn,

I don't have my copy here, so I looked it up at the searchable
text at Amazon (which I recommend to you if you want to search
for "bicycle" or any such thing). When Kinbote talks about
the trees on that famous avenue (n. 998), he mentions "a
phoenix (now date palm)". But date palms can't grow in the New
Wye winters that Kinbote described. If you search the archives
for "date palm", you'll find a little more that I've said
about it.

I think there are a few other such discrepancies of detail,
two of which I've mentioned recently: "I envision" versus "I
saw" "Dr. Sutton", and the coexistence of Utana with Utah and
Montana.

If it doesn't sway me, would that fact sway you at all? Instead of
guarantees, I'd be interested in seeing the item.
