An expanded Russian version of my 2007 note "An additional source for a Central Asian episode in 'The Gift'" (The Nabokovian 57) is now published, available free online at http://www.coastmagazine.org/coast/16/texts/critique/Fet.htm

This version reproduces the entire text (in Russian) of the original 1893 Niva article by Ivan Korostovets titled "Puteshestvie dvuh velosipedistov iz Evropy v Aziyu" [Travel of two bicyclists from Europe to Asia], from which VN directly borrowed the description of Thomas Allen and William Sachtleben (Gift, Chapter 2). I also added some comments on historical figures Allen and Sachtleben met on their way.
