BIRTHDAY: New lines by John Shade in Roth/ DeRewal essay
From
Date
Body
Found that my bunch of essays The Untamed
Seahorse was "universally acclaimed"
(Indeed, it sold exceptionally well --
mainly because I had seen fit to dwell
In scolarly [sic] detail on the delights
Byron derived from little catamites).

RS Gwynn: "A funny closing couplet but that opening enjambment isn't Shade's
usual
thing (can't recall how mention of the book of essays goes in PF--dont' have
a
copy with me), and the fifth line is pretty rough metrically, even for
Shade.

Is the article online?"

MR: Actually, the first two lines are verbatim as they appear in PF. I
included them for context. It's the last four that are "new." The article is
now available online at the Nabokov Online Journal website.

Best,
Matt
