The beginning and end of the Roman alphabet meet in az, the first letter of the old Russian alphabet (azbuka) and the personal pronoun "I" in Old Church Slavonic:

"Az esm' al'fa i omega, nachatok i konets" glagolet Gospod' ("I am the Alpha and the Omega," saith the Lord - John's Revelation 1:8).

"Mne otmshchenie i az vozdam" ("Vengeance is mine; I will repay", saith the Lord. - Romans 12:19; the epigraph to Anna Karenin)
