Subject
QUERY: On compassion in PNIN
Date
Body
"...He abruptly turned away, as if I had slapped his face."

Why did Nabokov abruptly turn away upon hearing McConkey say, at a noisy
party, that he liked Pnin for its compassion? ...

Can it be that Nabokov had a streak of ___________ in his character?
