Carolyn Kunin: "Despite the fact that Jansy refuses (refuses!) to deal with my question about A/Z incest, there is much here of interest. Of course I am aware of the homosexual strains in the Oedipus cycle, but in her post to which I was referring, lazy** Jansy only mentioned the Rex and not the cycle! But may I compliment her on the delightful expression 'pederast pre-history'? ...I too can be lazy and dislike having to decipher posts from Brazil and other Nabokovian outposts. Notice as well, that J does not address my question regarding her incomprehensible description of my description of Maar's book Speak, Nabokov. I'm waiting .".

EDNote: The Editor deplores the use of such personalized epithets, but since this is an instance of light-hearted banter between friends who, for unknown reasons, cannot communicate directly by email, I am letting it through this one time. ~SB

Jansy Mello: The posting about Maar that Carolyn refers to was distributed a long time ago. Perhaps I'm the only lazy one here - since I don't feel the urge to check it in the Archives, before I can correct any misapprehension it may have caused. (btw: Carolyn, why can't you offer dates, references, context? It would make it easier for me to comment.)
Matt Roth's recent reply to the Cinderella incest-story indicates that CK has confused some of her sources. Ir seems that this Cinderella version is to be found in M.R's article, in the one she's just mentioned in connection to Maar. It must be unrelated to me or to the Oedipus cycle. The variant MR describes, one with which I was unfamiliar, reminded me of another fairy-tale, Donkey Skin, and it has even been turned into a movie by Jascques Demy (Cf. Peau d´Âne ,1970).
