All of the recent discussion of dust jacket and paperback copy begs
some satiric fun. A contest should be held and awards (or at least
kudos) given to the best renderings of a Nabokov plot in the purple
prose of paperback promotional pulp. I envision the very good
(describing, for example, the apotheosis of Pnin to the realm of
campus ladies' man) and the sublime, where the parody is itself
Nabokovian. (Inspired by the submissions, we might discuss what it is
about Nabokovian parody that distinguishes it from that of Swift or
Twain, or other legendary satirists.) I propose the Look At The
Harlequin's Romance Award (The LATHER Award).
