As an aside to what Don said about three Russian writers making the NYT
Bestseller List during the Fortunate Fifties, I was given a delightful book for
Rozhdestvo written by Solomon Volkov. It's called, "Saint Petersburg: a
Cultural History". There are many illusions to Nabokov as well as to other
key Piter writers such as Akhmatova, Mandelstam, and Brodsky.

I have a tribute to Brodsky which will be published in the February
issue of Crisis Magazine. In his early years, Brodsky admired Nabokov very much
and read his books avidly. Only later in exile did he change his mind about the
Maestro.
