EDITOR'S NOTE: In answer to the query about the source of the quote that
ZEMBLA uses as a tag "A mysl' liubit zanavesku, kameru obkuru" ("But
thought likes a curtain, a camera obcura"):ZEMBLA Editor Jeff Edmunds
points out that it is from THE GIFT, (p. 350 in the Ardis edition of DAR)
and is spoken by Koncheev to Fyodor in their last mono-dialogue.

BOOKS

The Scholar's Bookshelf's Winter 1996-7 Literature mail-order catalogue
has some items of interest to the Nabokovian. On page 47, it lists:

1) The new 3-volume Library of America VN set,
edited and annotated by Brian Boyd, contain VN's English novels.

Novels and Memoirs, 1941-1951
Novels. 1952-1968
Novels. 1969-1974
$27.50 each vs. liSt $35.

PLEASE NOTE: THE SCHOLARS BOOKSHELF ADVISES ME THAT THERE IS AN ERROT IN
THE CATALOGUE LISTING OF THE ABOVE (P47). WHERE AS THE CATALOGUE
INDICATES ONLY THE FIRST AND THIRD OF THE ABOVE ARE AVAILABLE AT THE
$27.50 PRICE, IN FACT ALL THREE VOLUMES ARE. This has been confirmed by
Loren Hoekzema at 609-395-1880
----------------------------------------------------------
2) Brian Boyd's 2 volume VN biography (in paper) at $12.95 each, or
$24.95 for both. Marked down from the list price $19 & $20, respectively.
(Edward Hamilton, Bookseller, Falls Village, CT 06031-5000 lists Boyd's
_VN:The Russian Years_ item 721840, at $7.95 plus $3 shipping. Alas, he
does NOT list the second vol.)
---------------------------------------------
3) THE GARLAND COMPANION TO VLADIMIR NABOKOV, ed. Vladimir Alexandrov.
$85 vs. list $95. EDITOR'S NOTE. This 1995 is the basic reference for all
VN studies.
------------------------------------------------
4) John Burt Foster, NABOKOV'S ART OF MEMORY AND IMAGINATION. Princeton
UP) $12.95 vs list $35.

Subject: quote

The current Zembla footer, "A mysl' liubit zanavesku, kameru obskuru," is
spoken by the doubly imaginary Koncheev in _Dar_.
