Like many people, I belong to a number of mail lists, and it only
works if they stay on topic. Unless we all retire and do nothing but play
at email, who has the time? We lose the whole point about communicating
specific information when discussion becomes a Babel. Also, there are "hot
button" topics on which -- as in my case -- it is really hard not to post,
even though it's off topic. Shakespeare authorship, among literary-minded
folk, is exactly that.
