subject: Nabokov in Le Ton beau de Marot / by Douglas Hofstadter

Note 5. p. 288.

Hofstadter is writing of the passions he and George Steiner share:

"Another meeting of the minds is our common fair-minded inspection of,
dissection of, and ultimate rejection of, Vladimir Nabokov's curious
letter-over-spirit approach to the great *Eugene Onegin.*"

Mote 6. p. 365.

"From what I can tell from my readings, literary translators tend to be
quite reverential toward their authors (recall, for example, Vladimir Nabokov's
obsequiousness towards his idol Pushkin; he is not atypical) ...Their
self-esteem seems at about the level of a peon (here, Nabokov is not typical)."

Neither of these mentions is indexed under the entry "Nabokov".
