Today's home-page for amazon.com is understandably devoted to VN; what is
less understandable to me is this opinion: "`The Gift' is the pinnacle of
his Russian phase, followed closely by `Despair' and `King, Queen, Knave.'"
I have no quarrel with "The Gift"; ranking "Despair" or "King, Queen, Knave"
over "The Defense" or "Invitation to a Beheading" is absurd.
Any opinions?
