Ellen Pifer's fourth book, DEMON OR DOLL: CONSTRUCTING THE CHILD
IN CONTEMPORARY WRITING AND CULTURE, was accepted for publication last
month by the University Press of Virginia. Discussing the changes that
writers from Dickens to DeLillo have rung on the child's image, the
book--forthcoming next year--features a chapter on Nabokov's fiction
entitled "Nabokov's Novel Offspring: LOLITA and Her Kin."
