Celebrating VN's Centennial, the Nabokov Society of Japan was formed in
Tokyo on May 15th. Yoshiyuki Fujikawa, the ex-President of the English
Literary Society of Japan, was elected the President. He is one of the
earliest leading Japanese Nabokov scholars and the translator of
_Invitation to a Beheading_, _The Real Life of Sebastian Knight_ and _Pale
Fire_. In Japan, VN's work has been separately studied by the scholars of
Russian and English, without a common forum for discussion. The formation
of the Nabokov Society of Japan presents a wonderful opportunity for both
scholars and fans of VN. The society has two scholarly conferences a
year, issues newsletters and welcomes correspondence from Nabokovians all
over the world. Around 70 people attended the conference and the
symposium, sharing and celebrating VN's Centennial and the formation of
the society.
