Don, there is a Nabokov sighting to report, but I imagine that this reference to
VN has already been mentioned before.
I found it in John Updike, in his 1998 book " Bech at Bay", when his
disagreable character ( Bech ) is awarded a Nobel Prize in Literature and
reporters start questioning him about it.
One of them asks Bech if he didn´t consider such prize a miracle, since other
writers such as Henry James, Theodore Dreiser, Robert Frost or Nabokov had not
received the same distinction...
( I didn´t read the book in English, so I cannot offer references for pages or
chapters. Its at the end of the fifth story concerning Sweden...)

EDNOTE. The late Aleksandr Zver'ev has a very nice essay of VN and John Updike
in the Garland VN encyclopedia.
