Dear Carolyn,

Maybe I was being dense. Anyway, it's easy to find the
paragraph in the Index--just look under "Kinbote". :-)

Franklin Knight Lane (1864–1921) was a Prince Edward Islander
who became the U. S. Secretary of the Interior under Woodrow
Wilson. A fragment that Lane wrote the day before his death
is excerpted in the note to line 810. His complete letters,
including that fragment, are available from Project Gutenberg at
<http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/webbin/gutbook/lookup?num=4206>.
I should have called the excerpt a partial paragraph.
