1. CK, asked for shorter posts. I too find it hard to read longer
posts on screen. But sometimes I do want to read the whole thing. I
notice that on some of the blogs that I read, there's a mechanism that
puts the first couple of sentences on screen and then a "read more"
option. Click on it and you link to the full item. I doubt that this
is possible in an e-mail system.

But one thing that would help is if people remember to keep quoted
material to the minimum necessary. Hitting "reply" to quote some long
post merely to add a couple of lines just makes for clutter. (Those of
us who read the digest form can't do this.)

2. Steven asked if Pale Fire is the only work ever under discussion.
No. It just seems that way now. The list has been through at least one

Ada phase, and Lolita appears regularly. But these do seem to be the
big three. It might be interesting to speculate on why.
