Dear RSG,

Not only did Shade not know his parents, but he did not know what
they looked like. Since we are in the 20th century, the age of the
camera, I found this puzzling.. The explanation can be found by
reading one of VN's personal favorites, RLS 's Jekyll and Hyde, in
which a parental portrait is destroyed.
