SKB raised the question whether VN read the sank/bank passage in any of his public appearances. According to Alexandrov he not only read it but did so with a straight face (Nabokov's Otherworld, p. 249, n. 2).
I meant to include this information in my last post, but forgot to do it. Sorry.
