Alexey Sklyarenko: It belatedly occurs to me that Bryusov is the author of Ognennyi angel ("The Fiery Angel," 1907), a novel set in Middle Ages but based on real events. Its three main characters are Count Heinrich (Andrey Bely), Renata (Nina Petrovskaya) and Ruprecht (Bryusov). Khodasevich speaks of this novel in his article Konets Renaty ("The End of Renata") included in Necropolis (1939)....

JM: It's amusing to think about the choices of names. Renata means "born again" in Latin (feminine), an in French "Rene"(ee).
