I wish to thank Don Johnson for being in touch with Stacy Schiff whose
brilliant article in the NEW YORKER I just read with, to quote Anthony Burgess'
comments on ADA, "unalloyed pleasure." I will be writing Ms Schiff directly
when I have a chance to elucidate my thoughts on her essay about Vera
Nabokov--the other VN. She was a fascinating woman with many gifts and I am
delighted that Ms Schiff is writing her biography. As an aside, I grew up on
Saint-Exupery as my father was an officer in the French Air Force and was
himself a writer as well as scientist. Saint-Ex was the hero of his generation
of intellectual aviators and my father flew missions over Southern France, the
Meditteranean, and North Africa (some Nabokovians may not be aware that Ms
Schiff has also written a superb biography of the author of TERRE DES HOMMES
and LE PETIT PRINCE).

I will write a synopsis of the Mrs Genius essay for my weekly roundup of new
stories from the magazines which is circulated to all our editors, hosts, and
producers at NPR. If the Vera Nabokov biography is coming out soon, I would
like to assist in gaining interest at NPR to do an interview with Ms Schiff.

Once again, kudos to Ms Schiff!
