Query: Humbert's Rita
I applaud the Christmas contest (let us rival the Telegraph) and propose
another item: the annual Grainball Prize (which I recently offered my
students) to anyone who can come up with a plausible interpretation of the
virtually virgin Rita episode in Lolita.
>> In Lolita, Rita is begged by her politician brother never to
>> come back to Grainball (his city) but her boyfriends keep taking her there.
>> A moth concept, doubtless, but why? No one EVER addresses this unfathomable
>> bit of Lolita and Youth Wants to Know.
