I'm thankful to see these excerpts since I've not had a chance yet to
read this latest volume of Waugh letters. A little over a year ago I went
to Austin, Texas where Waugh's library is kept, and perused for myself
his copies of LOLITA and PALE FIRE, and wondered what he thought of the
latter, and now I know. They are the only two Nabokov books he had. No
marginalia at all, though, in either volume. I'll keep these quotes to
add to my Waugh web site in future
