RESCHEDULING "TEACHING NABOKOV" CONFERENCE

Dear Fellow Nabokovians:

Responses to the "Teaching Nabokov" workshop proposed for June, 1999 in
Asheville has been very positive. Many many of you have affirmed that this
is a valuable topic, and you would like to prepare presentations on it, and
hear those of others. ButŠit is evident that the summer of 1999 offers a
tempting cornucopia of Nabokov-related events and celebrations, too many of
them scheduled too closely together. Since the event I am coordinating is
somewhat modest in scale, and rather more easily manipulated than some of
the grander international conferences, I have decided, after consultation
with the Board members of the Vladimir Nabokov Society, to postpone it.
The University of North Carolina at Asheville has graciously accommodated
this possibility, and the same arrangements which were proposed for summer
1999 will remain in effect in summer 2000.

To those of you who have already made plans to come to the conference next
June, I extend both my gratitude and my apologies for this change of plans.
I hope that you will understand the reasons for making this shift, and that
you will be able, without too much trouble, to alter your schedules and
plan to come June 19-20, 2000.

At this point it is, of course, premature to ask for a definite commitment,
much less a cash deposit, for the summer after next. But it would be very
helpful in firming up these altered plans if I could get a rough idea how
many Nabokovians we could count on at this new time. If you are seriously
interested in this event, and think there's a good chance you MIGHT attend,
could you please let me know that by sending me an e-mail me at:

Thanks.
