QUERY: Nabokov's games (fwd)
Phil Howerton <phil@carolina.rr.com> adds "Word Golf" to the list of VN's
games. I might mention that I published a note on the sources of "Word
Golf" in THE NABOKOVIAN some years ago. See the ZEMBLA TN index for date.
Lewis Carroll played a large role as I recall. I now see that an obscure
Russian emigre publication of the early 20s called RUSSKOE EXO also
included this word game in its "V chasy dosuga" (leisure hours) column. No
name is given for the game. It is simply one of several kinds of zadachi
(problems). Nabokov published several of his early stories and poems in
the magazine.
