On the heels of the American Beauty/Lolita debate... I
have recently seen the film "Fight Club", and was struck by
the similarities between the film and Nabokov's _The Eye_
and _Despair_, in terms of a narrator describing a separate
character who in turn becomes that character. Upon tossing
this idea over to my professor, Julian Connolly, he said
that someone had suggested "Fight Club" to him as well --
though in reference to Dostoevsky's _The Double_, which
of course influenced _The Eye_ and _Despair_. Nice to see a
Russian literary backbone within a work of popular culture.
I am curious as to whether anyone else saw something similar
in Fight Club the film or in the novel (which I have yet to
read).
