As Don points out, the recent flurry of messages about collegiate courses
including or entirely devoted to Nabokov's works, is an invitation to
remind you of the "Teaching Naobkov" conference now rescheduled for June,
2000, in Asheville, North Carolina. With over a year to make preparations,
there will be no excuses accepted for non-attenders. As Brian Boyd
reminded me, Asheville is nestled in the Great Smokies, where VN sought and
found the "Toothwort White" which figures importantly in PALE FIRE.

Shortly after the end of Spring term, I will be making final arrangements
for the conference, and will get those details out in mid-summer, 1999.
For those compulsive persons who already have calendars for 2000, the dates
to save are proposed to be June 26-7. If 1999's myriad of events can be
seen as celebrating the VN centennial, perhaps the Asheville conference
will be one of the first of the Nabokov Millenium!
