For Sale: A Collection of Nabokov First Editions

The Defence. 1964 First U.K. Edition. Very good condition, but no dust
jacket. Weidenfeld and Nicolson. Recently released as a film, this
magnificent book recounts chess grandmaster Luzhin's spiral into
madness. This is a difficult first edition to find (known as the Defense
in the U.S.)

Nabokov's Quartet. 1966 First U.S. Edition. Excellent condition.
Phaedra Publishers. This rare first edition is in excellent condition
although missing the dust jacket. It includes four stories, An Affair of
Honor, Lik, The Vane Sisters, and The Visit to the Museum. These stories
span four decades and although thematically linked (some might argue) are
undoubtedly an excellent overview of Nabokov's writing.

Mary. 1971 First U.K. Edition. Dust jacket. Weidenfeld and Nicolson.
Nabokov's first novel, translated from the Russian forty-five years after
it was written. Book is in excellent condition with some rubbing on the
front free endpaper where a price was erased. The jacket has some small
rips, mild fading and some creases. This is a very important book, and
when read in conjunction with Ada, gives fascinating insight into
Nabokov's relationship with his wife, Vera.

A Russian Beauty and Other Stories. 1973 First U.S. Edition. Dust
jacket. McGraw-Hill Book Company. Faded spine on dust jacket, tear on
front of dust jacket, ex-library: several stamps, old glue, clipped
jacket. Otherwise in very good condition. This book has thirteen
stories including the awesome Ultima Thule. The stories were written in
Russian between the 1920s and 1930s and translated by Dimitri Nabokov and
Simon Karlinsky in collaboration with the author.

King, Queen, Knave. 1968 First U.S. Edition. McGraw-Hill Book Company.
Great condition, but no dust jacket. Nabokov's second novel, and dubbed
by him that 'bright brute,' and which he described as elaborate,
rapturous, and gay. This book, with echose of Anna Karenina and Madame
Bovary, is a marvelous read and a great way to start a Nabokov
collection.

These books are being sold as a collection. Please contact
