This message was originally submitted by alexanderstill@HOTMAIL.COM to the NABOKV-L list at LISTSERV.UCSB.EDU. Does anyone out there know of any links between Vn and herge ( 'tintin' )?
There is the lovely telephone conversation between tintin and haddock (sorry no page refs or direct quotes, as my books are in storage-can someone help?) in 'the calculus affair' , when tintin is trying desperately to speak in code, but haddock doesn't understand, and they somehow discuss the butterfly 'caught by the lake in geneva'. Probably coincidental, but it's just so cute. Herge's 'windows on a world', and VN's 'windows...have been the solace of first-person literature throughout the ages'. Both so concerned with cinema. Both in more-or-less the same place at the same time throughout the 30's-40's....

Anyway, it's fun to think about.
