EDNOTE. Although it does not answer the question, I note VN wrote a rather silly feuilleton called "Chto vsyakii dolzhen znat'" (What everyone should know) in 1931. In it VN pitches Freudianism as an up-to-date patent nostrum guaranteed to cure all ills. Aleksandr DOLININ reprints it in his 1989 collection VLADIMIR NABOKOv....

Besides Field's noting that Nabokov read Freud in English translation (a remark likely based on a letter in the Berg Collection from Vera Nabokov to Field stating such) and Nabokov's boutade in the Apostrophes interview that to appreciate Freud's quality as a comic writer he must be read in the original, does anyone know more about what language Nabokov read Freud in, and when?
