FILM: KUBRICK EXHIBITION The first major exhibition of props, possessions and memorabilia associated with the filmmaker Stanley Kubrick, whose creations include "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Dr. Strangelove" and "Paths of Glory," has opened in Frankfurt. Among the objects on display, assembled with the help of his widow, Christiane, and his longtime executive producer, Jan Harlan, Mrs. Kubrick's brother, are personal letters, including one from Katharine Hepburn gently rejecting a request to star in a film; a Dali-inspired lip-shaped red settee seen in "Lolita"; and the zero-gravity bathroom door used in "2001." Indicative of Kubrick's notorious meticulousness are his preparations for "Napoleon," down to the shooting schedule, an armoire full of books and index cards cataloging the important people surrounding Napoleon and their year-by-year movements. The film was never made because of technical problems and exorbitant production costs. Kubrick wanted to shoot indoor scenes by candelight. The exhibition continues through July 4 at the German Film Museum and the adjacent German Architecture Museum.
