Your remark re British thriller writer Philip Kerr reminded me that there are 2 references to VN in Kerr's A 5-Year Plan,. On pg. 272 of the Pocket pb Nabokov is mentioned in a list of authors on a book shelf, "Tolstoy, Turgenev, Dostoyevsky, Nabokov." And on pg. 369 a Russian submarine shows up, with a Captain Lieutenant Eugene Luzhin. Surely no coincidence.
Don't remember VN mentioned in 3 other Kerr novels, The Grid, and Esau and The Shot. Can't really recommend any of these 4 other than as pop thrillers. Have higher hopes for The 2nd Angel, and A Philisophical Investigation.
