Update: recording of "The Mother"

I would love to invite you all to virtually attend a poetry recitation on Monday, March 25th, at 6:00 p.m. CDT, where I will present, among other things, Nabokov's poem "The Mother." This will be a unique experience of the poem, recited in the context of a Holy Week service at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in St. Louis, Missouri. The service will present a narrative of the Passion, alternating poems selected and read or recited by me with organist David Sinden’s improvised responses on the 56-rank Mander organ of St. Peter’s. "The Mother" will appear last in the service, preceded by poems by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Rainer Maria Rilke, and others.

David and I planned this collaboration almost a year ago, and I am excited to share the final result. He is an excellent organist and I look forward to hearing him interpret the poetry through his improvisations.

The service will be live streamed and available for viewing afterwards at this link, and you can find more information about the event here. You can also view a 45-minute forum David and I gave on March 10th where I discussed the poetry selection in detail.

I sincerely hope you will join, live or later, even if you wish to skip to the end for VN alone.
