T he Google mapping is a great idea. (A couple of my students are busy producing a similar map of all the real-world places mentioned in Pale Fire.)  I was pleased to see confirmation that VN did some butterfly hunting in northern Virginia, near Harrisonburg, since that seems to be the general area where he placed New Wye, Appalachia.  Though the collected species is from Luray, it’s clear from the route that he must have gone right through Harrisonburg-Staunton and could easily have gone lepping in the mountains just west of there, where the diana and the atlantis overlap in their range.
