Hello all,

One of my current projects involves slogging through the manuscript of Pale Fire.  I recently came across a variant that seems to refer to a long, picaresque 1930s novel by Hervey Allen called Anthony Adverse.  According to Wikipedia, it was turned into a movie starring, among others, Olivia de Havilland. The plot is not easily described, but one character, Angela, becomes an actress and a mistress to Napoleon, much like Iris Acht and Thurgus, perhaps.  It’s a longshot, but I wonder if anyone on the list has any special knowledge of this book or its movie adaptation.

Thanks,

Matt Roth
