Nabokov's Chapter Fifteen ("Gardens and Parks", SM) was published in the New Yorker in 1950, beginning with an "Horatian inflection."  Among Steinberg's cartoons from 1963 there is one, related to the same lines, themselves forming an entire TV-set., down to the plug. Another cartoon, from 1964, by Joseph Mirachi, commemorates what seems to be a fortunate sale:a used Edsel.
