I would like to correct several inaccuracies in my previous posts. According to Fet (see his memoirs), Pyotr Kononovich Botkin (the tea merchant, father of Vasiliy, the writer, and Sergey, the doctor), had fourteen children (nine sons and five daughters) from two marriages. Although Maria Botkin (Fet's wife) inherited a little more than her sisters, she was not too rich. In 1862 (when un tuile fell on his head) Fet was not yet bald.
