Dear friends,
after many birthday contributions on this list I'm sending a brief
account of the celebrations in the Nabokov Museum, with some delay.

This year an exhibition of theme posters done
by the students of the Graphic Design Dept of the University was shown
and we had and my own students prepared a reading of VN's
poems (which was very good I think, with some Mahler and Rakhmaninov
 in between).
The real highlight of the event was the celing of the Freen room, though.
For about a month now professional experts and Restoration Dept.
 students have been working in
the museum and we showed the restoration results for the first time. The results
are fantastic - we uncovered painting on the ceiling in the Green
 Room! Nabokov mentioned
"pale-green clouds" on the ceiling but there's more. We found a swallow and a garland of
flowers! THe swallow is especially dear for us as VN reciting the  "swallow" poem is
one of the very few VN's recordings in Russian.
Below are links to some of the TV
coverage of our event. The second link is where the swallow is seen especially well.
