Dear List Members:

You will notice (I hope) below a new link banner--at least, if you are viewing
the email in HTML. Some have been asking how to register with the
listserver so that archival searches show email addresses.
The link at bottom write labeled "Manage your subscription" leads to a
page that allows you to log in and change your options (such as digest
or regular, or whether you want to receive copies of your own posts).
It also has a link that allows you to create your own password, or to
generate a new password if you have forgotten your old one.

As for the privacy of email addresses, I might note that they are
concealed (for some browsers, but mysteriously not for all) not because
we don't want list members to have easy access to each other's
addresses, but so that spammers cannot easily harvest our ~600 email
addresses. I have found that when I use the Google search of the
archive as linked below, it delivers the relevant messages together with
the email address of the author. Thus, an author-specific search of the
archive, via Google, should deliver the needed address. Writing
directly to another list member off-list is not, in my judgment, a
breach of list etiquette.

Temporarily sitting in for SES,
Stephen Blackwell
