NABOKV-L thanks Aleksandr Svirilin (discoverer of the paragraph inadvertently dropped in all Russian versions of LOLITA) for responding  to the editor's plea. I have not read the excerpt as yet but suspect it is not for the faint of heart. Sorokin is a recipient of the prestigious "Russian Booker" Prize. Comments on the passage's relationship to VN's writing are welcome. In my quick glance I noticed that the first sentence parodies the first line of Tolstoy's ANNA Karenin(a) and, of course, that of ADA.
