EDNOTE. I rather doubt whether VN followed Asian writing. As an odd sidelight though, Sasha Sokolov---endorsed by VN and widely seen as an acolyte---does a whole riff on Kawabata's novel "Snow Country" in his 1976 Russian novel "School for Fools."

I wonder if Ms. Nakata, or anyone else, would know whether VN was at all aware of contemporary Japanese literature and in particular of the novels of Yasunari Kawabata. Since I burn incense at the altars of both of these great spirits, it would be nice to think that they were at least peripherally aware of one another.

EDNOTE. Akiko Nakata of the Japanese Nabokov Society has mounted a very nice photo collection of Nabokov's residences in Ityhaca on her web page  at http://www10.plala.or.jp/transparentt/homes.html .
Other Nabokov-related photos are available at ZEMBLA.

Thank you Andrew Brown and Galya Diment, for your kind words about the web page of Nabokov's Ithaca homes.  I am very delighted to know that the photographs are helpful.  And thank you all who came and will come to see them.

Now I am preparing another page to celebrate Nabokov's birthday.  If you have
something you would like to dedicate to him and share with us on the
web, please let me know.  Poems, chess problems, crossword puzzles,
acrostics, anagrams, riddles, quizzes, pictures, photographs, etc. -- anything will do as far as it is related
with VN in some way.  So far, two chess problemists have promised me to compose *special* problems and a painter to draw a portrait.
Please join us!

Best wishes,
Akiko Nakata
