EDNOTE. I checked this out. It is a small scale thing involving just a few hundred voters' on best books of the 50s. Almost entirely Brits--both the books and the 15 authors nominated. Georgette  Heyer, romance novelist by a huge margin (427); then Nicholas Monsaratt. Then tightly grouped: Lolita (38); Zhivago (37); Sillitoe , & Amis' _Lucky Jim_.
