EDITOR's NOTE. Oleg Dorman, Moscow film maker poses an awesome question here. In reply I can only hazard that no one has checked EVERYTHING but at the time of  its publication there was a battle royal over the translation. Many American Russian specialists joined in, but mostly over the translation rather than VN'a scholarship. Since two different translations of VN's commentaries have now been published in  Russia, I imagine Russian Pushkinists are checking and debating details. It would be good to hear from them.

Dear friends,
I dare to propose a bold though ingenuous question: did anyone ever follow Nabokov's footsteps and check all the references, sources and quotations named in his Commentaries to Evgeniy Onegin?
Your Oleg Dorman.
