Another 'Phantom 49er'

On New Year's Day, the Daily News published a list of famous fictional Alaskans and invited readers to submit more. Not everyone got the idea. Jack London, for instance, is not a fictional character, though he lived an adventure-novel kind of life.

But from Homer, one well-read party reminded us about the title character in Vladimir Nabokov's classic, "Lolita." The 1955 book (and the original movie version of it) make it clear that literature's most famous jailbait moves to, and apparently dies in, Alaska.

Does anyone know whether Nabokov ever visited Alaska in person?
