In response to Irena Ksiezopolska's query about whether there was a photo in the first Russian book edition of Korol', Dama, Valet:
 
Neither the 1928 Berlin Slovo edition, nor any other European first editions of Naboko'v works, had any photos of him. As far as Russian editions go, the first American Russian edition, McGraw-Hill, 1969, had a Philippe Halsman photo; the Ardis hardcover and wrappers edition in 1979 had no photos. Some of the more recent Russian editions published in Russia contain his photo.
