On page 78 of Lolita, Humbert names several of the people who attended his
wedding to Charlotte Haze. He mentions "...the Chatfields, the McCoos,
and a few others..." These names appear many times throughout the book
(especially Virginia/Ginny McCoo), but their placing here brings to mind
the well-known Hatfield-McCoy feud, and I wonder if Nabokov might have
intended an allusion. Appel offers no comment here, so perhaps I am
imagining allusions where there are none.

Any thoughts are appreciated,
David Golemboski
