A correction for my spelling "verglass". The
word should be "verglas" and, following the Oxford Concise English
dictionary, it comes from the French "verre" ( glass) and "glas" ( formerly
glace, i.e, ice).
If "muscovy glass" suggests "mica" instead of
"verglas" would we miss the autumnal suggestion of the sentence with its
verglas?
Perhaps Victor Fet could aid me here: why ( at least using on-line
information) does the North European rowan flower in May and carry
fruit till August while in Zembla it is coral red in Autumn?
Would this place Zembla somewhere closer to China than to
Russia?
