Thanks to Jansy, the List-Leading Lady, and Carolyn, a good Samaritan, I could see a thread connecting Napoleon--(jealousy)--Marie-Louise--(adultery)--Neipperg (black-patched) woven into the texture of TT. I thought Napoleon belonged to the theme of going over the Alps like Hannibal (<Amilcar). Besides that, Napoleon with his wife and her lover take roles in the novella.
 
And I am still looking for a black-patched captain that would fit in with Ch. 26.

Thank you for your answer. The question was actually asked by Jansy, not
I--I just quoted it for an argument--but anyway I thank you for
participating in the TT group reading. I also feel sorry for Marie Louise
for her arraged marriage in spite of her will--if my memory is correct, she
fainted when she was told she was going to marry Napoleon--but I doubt she
plays an important role in TT as Jansy thinks.
