Dear Alex,
I've often wondered  why you didn't proceed with your formal education--although I certainly can't guarantee that riches (or even  employment) glitter in such a future. You are a born academic. It occurs to me that  I know nothing of your educationalbackground (or perhaps just don't remember).  I will do anything I can to help you get a grant--from Aukland to Helsinki. Why don't you send me a Curriculum Vitae (CV). Please do not over estimate my capability to help but I shall do whatever I can.    Best, DOn

Dear Don,I

Thank you for offering me your help in editing my note. Of course, I'm happy to learn that DN liked it and even thought of doing a translation himself. Carolyn also offers me her help, but she is too busy with her rose-and-camellia garden and, just like you, asks me to do a rough translation. So, what I actually need is only a rough draft of the English version. It would take me a couple of days, if not a whole week, to prepare this draft. May be somebody with better English than mine and some knowledge of ADA will still turn up?

Things are fine with me, but I must give up writing notes temporarily and start looking for an American University where I can continue pursuing my studies (terra firma to which I can be transplanted from this marshy ground, so to say). Although I must say that our publichka is probably the best place to make artistic discoveries and, if I am to leave Petersburg, I will miss it.

I'm glad that I could help you with your paper and got the chance to be immortalized in it. I have a feeling that must be experienced by a hitch-hiker who would be given a lift by the owner of a Rolls-Roys car, bringing him all the way from Spb. to Gibraltar.

best,
Alexey

Dear Don,

As usually, I replaced my first message to the List with another version, which I hope is more correct and better.
I wonder how many people will respond to my request and who they will be.
Pity my hope that I can get you to translate this interesting note proved vain.

best,
Alexey
