Dear Nabokovians,

It gives me great pleasure to announce the winner of the 2012 prize
for the Best Scholarly Contribution in the area of Nabokov Studies –
Brian Boyd’s Nabokov’s Ada: The Place of Consciousness (Cybereditions,
revised edition, 2002).

Brian Boyd is University Distinguished Professor of English at the
University of Auckland. His work has appeared in numerous languages
and has won prestigious international awards. He is the author of
Vladimir Nabokov: The Russian Years and Vladimir Nabokov: The American
Years, a book on Pale Fire and the AdaOnline project. Boyd’s most recent
books include Stalking Nabokov (Columbia University Press, 2011) and
Why Lyrics Last: Evolution, Cognition, and Shakespeare’s Sonnets
(Harvard University Press, 2012). In January of 2012 he has organized
and led the conference devoted to Nabokov in New Zealand.

Brian Boyd will be handed the US $600 prize.

The prize for the Best Scholarly Contribution in the area of Nabokov
Studies was founded in 2012, and is sponsored by the Nabokov Online
Journal (www.nabokovonline.com). It is an annual award given to the
major research devoted to Vladimir Nabokov.

Among the finalists, selected this year from the longlist of 12, were
also Alexander Dolinin with Istinnaia zhizn’ pisatelia Sirina [The
Real Life of the Writer Sirin: Studies on Nabokov] (St. Petersburg,
2004), and Dieter E. Zimmer with A Guide to Nabokov’s Butterflies and
Moths (2001).

For the 2013 Award we will consider works published between 2006 and
2011.

I wish to thank Susan Elizabeth Sweeney and Stephen Blackwell, the
co-editors of Nabokv-L, for their willingness to handle the final
phase of the voting process, as well as all the subscribers who have
participated in this year’s inaugural selection.

Our sincere congratulations go to Brian!
